2009 SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS

Theme: Caring for All Creation

This summer campers will dive into Creation to discover how much a part of it (not apart from it!) God calls us to be.

We will explore Creation as we know it best – the people and things that are dear to each one of us, like family, home, friends, belongings, hopes, dreams, and gifts. What all do we do to care for them?

We will also get into Creation as God knows it – all of it, the whole shebang - in the air, on land, underground, undersea, and in space. Plants, people, pelicans, planets - no single part less treasured than another. Where does it all come from? Where is it going? And most important – what would God have us do for it and with it?

Get ready to make banners, mobiles, gardens, even a whole cosmos. We’re going swimming in All Creation, where the deep end has no bottom, but the Lifeguard never sleeps!

Oh, A Song Must Rise!

What tune today will you still be singing when you're 40? Maybe the one you write at Vacation Bible Camp this summer! No matter how good a voice you've got - we're all composers at heart when we remember how much we love and are loved. Come to camp this year to think, dance, and sing about it with a God whose fingers snap. We'll find your words a tune and a beat that will keep that memory alive!

1. - General Camps

“Finding the Peaceful Kingdom”
Campers of every age will play, talk, make crafts, and wonder this summer about how we make peace in God’s Kingdom: Peace with the Earth, Peace with Others, Peace with Ourselves, and Peace with God. Everybody will have fun and do some deep thinking about the footprint we each leave on Creation, and the footprint we each would like to leave behind.

We will be looking at how we love the Earth, our part in its problems, and what we have to give back to it. There will be games, activities, songs, and some great crafts about the imprint we leave on others: about the differences between us and others and how those differences can play out between families, religions, races, and nations. We will think even about the things that can keep us from being at peace with ourselves, and how we can open the door when God calls.

Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Camps will each wrestle and play with these questions at the level appropriate to their personal development and motor skills. Only three things come guaranteed – Fun, Friends, and … Feet!!

2. - Vacation Bible Camp - August 11-14, 2008

“Here Come The Incredibles!” There will be stories, songs, crafts, and dressing up this summer as campers think of the SuperHeroes they know and the SuperHeroes they might be. If not SuperStrength or SuperSpeed, what SuperPower might God put within our reach? SuperGenerosity perhaps? SuperForgiveness? Come join us as we imagine ourselves as God’s very own superheroes, each able to help make peace on Earth – and to make a play about it for our parents, friends, and other Vernon residents.
